After multiple knee surgeries during high school and college athletics, my knees had taken a beating. Sophomore year of college, my body hit a point where working out became painful, hiking was impossible, and golf was unbearable. If I wanted to enjoy any of these activities I had to wear an unloader brace and I found myself not enjoying any of the activities I loved anymore. After years of pain and wear on my knees I decided it was time to see if there were any other options.

I was referred to Midwest Orthopaedics to see Dr. Cole. I immediately felt at ease when he walked in the room, looked at my images, and asked me about my history. Dr. Cole recommended Osteochondral Autograft Transplant Surgery (OATS). As someone who is interested in medicine, I loved how Dr. Cole walked me through the surgery and recovery process so I would know everything that was about to take place.

The recovery was long, but worth it. Dr. Cole and his team were in constant contact with me to make sure everything was going smoothly. Going to school 6 hours away, I wasn?t in close physical distance to Dr. Cole, but luckily he was always in close email contact. I provided progress reports and, as a patient, it helped me knowing that my provider cared about my recovery process.

Just over a year after surgery, I?m back to doing all the activities I love, brace free! I?ve been able to hike the beautiful pinnacles of Kentucky, get back to my barre classes, and hit the golf course. I will forever be thankful for the care Dr. Cole and his staff gave me and my family. He has helped me get back to the things I love and I couldn?t be happier!
