Steve and Dr. Cole speak with Dr. William Bugbee about advancements in the treatment of cartilage injuries in athletes. William Bugbee, MD is an attending physician at Scripps Clinic, La Jolla and Professor, department of Orthopaedics, University of California, San Diego.
His clinical interests are in arthritis surgery of the hip, knee and ankle, joint replacement, osteochondral allograft transplantation and cartilage restoration. Research interests include biologic response to implants, innovation in knee replacement technique and design, Osteochondral transplantation, cartilage tissue engineering and biologic joint repair.
Dr. Bugbee discusses the importance of tissue donation and tissue banks that recover tissue from more than 58,000 donors and distribute in excess of 3.3 million allografts for more than 1.75 million transplants performed annually in the U.S. Through advancements in?tissue banking technologies, tissue?safety and the use of donated human tissue, transplants are available to those who need them.
