Diagnosed with scoliosis at age 11, Stacy Lewis wore a hard plastic back brace 18 hours a day, removing it only to play golf. She did this in the hopes that while she was still growing, the curvature would stabilize and she could avoid surgery.
After finally getting the brace removed at age 18 and accepting a golf scholarship to the University of Arkansas, she learned that her spine was beginning to curve again. So, putting her golf ambitions aside, not knowing if she would ever be able to play golf again, Stacy had her scoliosis straightened by a stainless steel rod surgically implanted by Dr. Gary Brock in Houston.
After enduring 9 months of rehab, she not only made the Arkansas golf team, but 2 years later, won the NCAA individual championship. She ended her college career as one of the most decorated golfers in college golf with a record 12 NCAA tournament wins and ranked the #1 amateur in the country.
After graduating with a double-major in finance & accounting, Stacy turned pro ? making her one of the few top LPGA pros who have earned their college degrees.
In 2011, she won her 1st ?major? at the Kraft Nabisco Championship and after winning four LPGA tournaments in 2012, she became the first American in 18 years to win the LPGA?s most prestigious, Player of the Year award. In 2013, she has picked up where she left off by winning 2 of the first 4 events, making it 7 wins in less than 2 years!
In March of 2013, Stacy Lewis became the #1 ranked golfer in the world and is a true inspiration to millions of people around the world who have had to overcome adversity in order to succeed!
