In 2009, several doctors got together to form a research group focused on pediatric knee conditions, specifically Osteochondritis Dissecans, a joint disorder in which cracks form in the articular cartilage. Over the last seven years, the Research in Osteochondritis of the Knee (ROCK) group has grown to 52 members in five countries, all dedicated to a better understanding of how to treat this challenging problem.
The ROCK consists of a group of orthopaedic surgeons, physical therapists, musculoskeletal radiologists, veterinarians, and professional researchers who work together to design research projects to add better science and evidence to diagnose and treat the condition.
The ROCK group also formed a partnership with AlloSource to help facilitate research-based events. Doctors from the ROCK group visit AlloSource to conduct research on donated tissue. The partnership is one of the many ways AlloSource is committed to honoring the gift of tissue donation by maximizing its medical impact. Tissue donated for research has the potential to help countless patients through medical advancements. The research the ROCK group performs provides an opportunity for new healing to come out of a tragic loss.
