Motion Care

To encourage patient engagement in overall health and selection of conservative treatments (which reduce the risk of long periods of inactivity and the related health issues), DJO Global launched Motion is Medicine and MotionCARE driven protocols. MotionCARE aims to help patients restore motion and improve their lives by addressing four common areas; pain, alignment, strength and stability. Motion is Medicine encourages patients to select treatment options which optimize activity level, thereby decreasing their risk for diabetes, heart disease and other conditions associated with low levels of physical activity.

Pain

Pain?caused from OA of the knee, injury or other orthopedic conditions can create a barrier to motion both psychological and physical. Addressing immediate pain issues is essential to getting inertia. For example, TENS is a cost-effective therapy for chronic low back pain.

Alignment

If the body?s alignment?is not correct, it can create wear on joints that can cause pain. Incorrect alignment can be natural and be the cause of the pain. It can also come from an injury or as the result of the body compensating for pain.

Strength

As pain increases, the body compensates to avoid the pain. Quadriceps stop firing and more pressure is put on joints exacerbating the situation. Maintaining strength?in key muscle groups is critical to reversing the path of degeneration and getting back in motion.

Stability

Stability?issues can be real from injury in addition to OA and it can also be perceived when sharp pain creates the impression of stability. Real or perceived, stability can be a barrier to motion.

MotionCARE is a flexible protocol that helps physicians prescribe DJO Global products that promote and encourage healing through motion
